Himachal Pradesh – Dev Bhoomi

Himachal Pradesh was declared full-fledged state on 25th January 1971. The state of Himachal Pradesh is bordered by Tibet on the east, Punjab on the west, Haryana on the south-west and by Uttarakhand on the south-east. True to its name, Himachal Pradesh is a land of mountains, snow and valleys. Tourism, agriculture, handicrafts and hydroelectric power projects are main contributors of state’s economy.

Due to variation in elevation climatic conditions varies; humid in southern parts to cold in northern and eastern mountain ranges. Also known as fruit bowl of India, Himachal is blessed with various medicinal and aromatic plants. During autumn, hillsides and orchards bloom with beautiful flowers of apples, apricots, gladiolas and carnations.

Beautiful landscapes of Himachal Pradesh attract thousands of tourists and travelers from across the globe. Hill stations like Shimla, Manali, Dalhousie, Dharamsala and Kullu are popular. Travelers looking for more adventure head towards Kinnaur.

Himachal Pradesh is also referred as “Dev Bhoomi” and has numbers of historical temples like Naina Devi Temple(Bilaspur, HP), Vajreshwari Devi Temple(Kangra, HP), Jwala Ji Temple(Kangra, HP), Chamunda Devi Temple(Kangra, HP), Baijnath Temple(Kangra, HP), Chintpurni(Una, HP), Bhimakali Temple(Sarahan, HP), Bijli Mahadev(Kullu, HP), Manu Temple (Kullu, HP), Renuka Lake(Sirmaur, HP) and Jakhoo Temple (Shimla, HP).  Himachal also boasts some of the oldest Buddhist Monasteries in Asia like The Tabo monastery(Spiti Valley), Sakya Tenggyu monastery(Kaza).

Adventure activities like ice skating in Shimla, rafting in Kullu, Skiing in Manali and Narkanda, paragliding in Bir-billing and Solang valley and trekking can be done in different parts of Himachal Pradesh. Kinner Kailash trek in Kinnaur is one of the toughest but beautiful treks in India.

Hindi is the official language of Himachal Pradesh; however, you will find locales of the state speaking in Pahari languages that have various sub-languages or dialects. 95% of the population in Himachal Pradesh is of Hindu faith and other religion that form a small percentage are Buddhism, Sikhism and Islam.

Due to difficult terrain many regions in Himachal were once untouched by outer world. Due to technological advancements and HP government efforts many villages are now well connected.
